The remaining part of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to be played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The tournament was supposed to be completed in India but since the bio-bubble was breached, BCCI shifted the remaining matches to UAE.
Moreover, UAE has hosted the IPL earlier in 2014 and 2020. In 2014, it was shifted when general elections were held in India and in 2020, BCCI moved the tournament to UAE again after covid cases kept rising in India and conditions weren’t in favour of hosting the league.
T20 is such a format where batsmen are very important. You can have the best bowler in the world but he can only bowl 20 per cent of the overs. If you have one or two of the best batsmen in the world, they can bat the entire innings if they are in form and take the match completely away from the opponents. Although this doesn’t work always, as bowlers are as important as batsmen. But, no side has won the IPL with a weak batting line up.
Overseas stars will prefer playing on the UAE pitches which don’t offer much help to the spinners. Indian players, on the other hand, might find it slightly hard as they have historically been performing better on home soil. On that note, let’s look at five players with most runs in UAE.
5. Virat Kohli
The India and RCB skipper – who is rated as the best batsman in the world in all formats is the fifth highest run-getter in UAE. Kohli has amassed 571 runs while playing in UAE. Unfortunately, his individual brilliance has not helped RCB clinch the crown even once, he will look to turn things around in UAE once again.
4. Suryakumar Yadav
The key to Mumbai’s success in 2020 was the consistent performance of all its players. When one didn’t fire, the other stepped in. One player who was in action last year for Mumbai Indians was Suryakumar Yadav. The confidence that IPL has given him was visible during his debut series against England. However, he looked out of form in the first phase of the IPL 2021 and is expected to regain his form again in UAE.
Suryakumar’s ability to score at a high rate and hit even good deliveries for boundaries makes him a very dangerous player. Overall, Suryakumar Yadav has accumulated 590 runs in UAE and is 4th highest run scorer in UAE.
3. Shikhar Dhawan
Shikhar Dhawan has brilliant batting records in the UAE. He is the third highest run scorer in UAE, scoring 703 runs. Also, he was in great form in the first phase of the Indian Premier League 2021, accumulating 380 runs in 8 matches, making him the highest run scorer in the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League.
2. David Warner
If showing consistency in IPL is an art, then David Warner is the Picasso of it. Since joining Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2014, he has been exceptional, to say the least. He has scored 500+ runs in each and every season for SRH except in 2018 due to the ban imposed on him for being involved in ball-tampering.
He is not only a great batsman but has great leadership skills and is an extremely athletic fielder. Warner is the second highest run scoring overseas player in the IPL with 711 runs in UAE. However, the IPL 2021 season wasn’t as great as previous years for him. He could manage only 193 runs in 6 matches and was sacked from captaincy.
1. KL Rahul
Lokesh Rahul has been in scintillating form for Punjab Kings in the last two seasons. The classy opener has become Punjab’s highest run-scorer among Indian batsmen in just a couple of seasons with the Punjab Kings. He was also the highest run scorer of IPL 2020 season (which was played in UAE), smashing 670 runs in just 14 innings. He ended that season with orange cap.
Rahul is the highest run-getter in UAE, accumulating 788 runs. He was in a great touch in the first phase of the IPL 2021. He was the second highest run scorer in the first phase of the IPL 2021, scoring 311 runs in 7 matches.
