

Rohit Sharma, on Sunday, January 15 surpassed South African batting legend AB de Villiers to score the most runs in men’s ODIs. The stylish right-hander achieved the milestone during the ongoing third and final ODI match against Sri Lanka at Thiruvananthapuram.
The Mumbai batter was just 24 runs away from leapfrogging De Villiers in the elite list of most runs in men’s ODIs and he clobbered 42 runs from 49 deliveries on Sunday to achieve the landmark. His quick knock was studded with two fours and three towering sixes.
Rohit now has 9596 runs in 238 matches, including three double tons. He averages 48.71 with a strike rate of 89.61. AB de Villiers meanwhile finished his ODI career with 9577 runs. He had an average of 53.50 and a strike rate of 101.09.
As for the match, Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first. The 35-year-old justified his decision by providing a flying start to the Men in Blue. He stitched a 95-run partnership with Shubman Gill at the top from just 92 deliveries.
