The commencement of the remaining phase of IPL 2021 is just around the corner. Players, who were in England for the 5-Match Test series are reaching UAE for the cash rich league.
However, in the latest turn of events, three England players namely Jonny Bairstow, Chris Woakes and Dawid Malan have pulled out of the IPL 2021.
Reportedly, these players were furious and angry with BCCI and team India over the cancellation of the 5th Test, which was scheduled to be played in Manchester.
In a statement confirming the same, ECB wrote:
“Following ongoing conversations with the BCCI, the ECB can confirm that the fifth LV= Insurance Test between England and India Men due to start today at Emirates Old Trafford, will be canceled. Due to fears of a further increase in the number of COVID cases inside the camp, India is regrettably unable to field a team. We send our sincere apologies to fans and partners for this news.”
According to a report of The Sun, England players felt that the Indian team didn’t follow covid protocols well and were even spotted out and about in Manchester on Thursday, when they were meant to be at their hotel.
Bairstow was scheduled to join Sunrisers Hyderabad, Chris Woakes had to join Delhi Capitals while Dawid Malan was part of Punjab Kings in the IPL 2021.
Dawid Malan and Chris Woakes’s withdrawal from the tournament won’t hurt their franchises as they have like-to-like replacements for these players. However, Sunrisers Hyderabad will be the one who might suffer a huge loss in the remaining phase of IPL as after sacking David Warner from captaincy and playing XI, Jonny Bairstow and Kane Williamson were the constant run scorers for the team.
However, now with Bairstow being unavailable for the entire tournament, it will be a golden opportunity for David Warner to show what he is capable of and cement his place again in the team.
Rest of the English players namely Sam Curran, Moeen Ali, Tom Curran, Eoin Morgan, Liam Livingstone, Sam Billings, Jason Roy and George Garton are reaching UAE and will soon resume practice after completing quarantine.
