Former India opener Virender Sehwag looked extremely impressed with the brilliant batting display from Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah on the final day of the Lord’s Test.
Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah stitched together a crucial 89-run partnership for the 9th wicket in the second innings of India, taking their side to 298 for 8 and offered England to chase 272 in the final innings.
Meanwhile, the former Indian batsman Virender Sehwag heaped praise on the 30-year old Indian pacer Mohammed Shami for his tremendous batting performance.
The former Indian cricketer was so impressed with Mohammed Shami’s cover drive off Moeen Ali’s delivery that he went on to say that ‘even Virat Kohli could not play such a shot in the match.’
“Look at that cover drive. Even Virat Kohli could not play that shot as well as he (Mohammed Shami) did. Brilliant batting and partnership between the two. I think the moment Robinson was taken out of the attack, both became very comfortable.
“When Sam Curran and Moeen Ali came on, it never looked like England would be able to get them out. The defence was correct, the shots were correct. Everything was in India’s favour,” Sehwag said during the commentary on Star Sports Network.
Talking about the match, team India registered a massive victory against England by 151 runs, bowling them out for just 120 in the 2nd innings. Mohammed Siraj was the highest wicket-taker for team India, having picked 8 wickets in the match. Ishant Sharma picked five while Bumrah and Shami finished with three wickets each under their belt.
