Pakistan captain Babar Azam notched up his 19th ODI century against Nepal in the Asia Cup 2023 opener at Multan Cricket Stadium. With this, he raced past South Africa legend Hashim Amla and became the fastest to score 19 ODI centuries.
Adding to his incredible 151-run blitz in the opening match, Babar shattered another batting record. He not only raced to 19 centuries faster than anyone but also broke one of Virat Kohli’s records.
The Pakistan captain went past Virat Kohli’s 136 and now holds the title for the highest runs scored by a captain in a single Asia Cup innings. Going back to 2014, Kohli slammed 136 runs as captain during the Asia Cup against Bangladesh while chasing 280.
Kohli had snatched the record from Sourav Ganguly, who had smashed an unbeaten 135 against Bangladesh in the 2000 Asia Cup. Talking about Babar Azam, he scored 151 runs from 131 balls with the help of 14 boundaries and four sixes in his innings.
