In a significant move, the Indian batter Karun Nair has inked a deal to bolster Northamptonshire’s lineup for the rest of the County Championship season.
This exciting development sees the Karnataka batter stepping into the shoes of Sam Whiteman, who has bid adieu to Northamptonshire to return to his homeland Down Under.
Karun Nair, who looked in great touch during the recently concluded Maharaja T20 Trophy, arrived in the UK on Friday and will join Northamptonshire ahead of their Sunday match against Warwickshire.
Speaking on his new assignment abroad, here’s what Nair said:
“I’m really looking forward to joining Northamptonshire and getting to play in the County Championship. You hear a lot about county cricket, and I know Prithvi [Shaw] really enjoyed his time with the team, so it’s exciting to have the opportunity to be involved too.”
“Hopefully, I can make an impact on the team while I’m there, that’s the main thing for me. It’s about doing as much as I can to help the team get some wins in these last three games.”
Notably, Karun Nair is only the second Indian batter after Virender Sehwag to have scored a triple century in Test cricket. In December 2016, he scored an unbeaten 303 in his third Test against England in Chennai.
