SA20 2023: Preview, Teams & Squads For South Africa T20 League

SA20 2023 is scheduled to start from January 10 with MI Cape Town facing Paarl Royals in the tournament opener.

The inaugural edition of South Africa’s first domestic franchise Twenty20 league, SA20 is scheduled to start on 10 January 2023 with 33 matches set to take place across six different venues in South Africa; Pretoria, Johannesburg, Durban, Gqeberha, Cape Town, and Paarl.

All six participating teams in the SA20 league are owned by the Indian Premier League Franchises – MI Cape Town (Reliance), Pretoria Capitals (JSW), Paarl Royals (Royals Sports Group), Durban Super Giants (RPG-Sanjiv Goenka), Johannesburg Super Kings (India Cements), and Sunrisers Eastern Cape (Sunrisers Hyderabad owner Kaviya Maran).

The all-new South African T20 franchise cricket league has signed a multi-year title sponsorship deal with online betting and gaming company Betway ahead of its inception in January 2023. It will provide the online gaming community with a new challenge and SA20 betting site Betway will be the perfect platform for cricket lovers to hone their skills.

Graeme Smith, SA20 League Commissioner expressed delight while announcing their title sponsor. The former South African captain stated that they are looking forward to seeing their brand new T20 league touching new heights in world cricket.

“This is another significant milestone for us as we welcome them to our growing list of invested partners. They are a global brand with a passionate interest in cricket around the world and we look forward to seeing the Betway SA20 scale new markets and audiences globally.”

“We Want to Build the Biggest League Outside India”: Graeme Smith

Graeme Smith also promised to make SA20, the second most successful league after Indian Premier League. The 41-year-old also hopes that this league will help them in the growth of international cricket in South Africa.

“The goal of SA20 is to get South Africa cricket back to the place we all know it belongs – competing with India, competing with the likes of England and Australia and keeping the international game strong,” said Betway SA20 Commissioner Graeme Smith at an event with Viacom18 Sports in Mumbai.

“We have that opportunity now through the partners we have been able to attract – the six teams, we are going to put sixty to eighty of South African players on the map and bring that fandom to India and the new heroes will come to the IPL and play for South Africa all around the world – that’s out goal. We want to build something vibrant and be able to build the biggest league outside India is something that we would really love to achieve.”
