England beat India by 27 runs at Lord's to win the ODI series 2-1 despite Rohit Sharma's historic century and record-breaking feats.
England defeated India by 27 runs in the third and final ODI at Lord’s on 19 July 2026, sealing the three-match series 2-1. The hosts defended a record total of 387 for 3 as India’s strong chase ended at 360 for 7.
England’s 387 for 3 became the highest ODI total ever recorded at Lord’s. Ben Duckett led the way with a superb 141 off 135 balls and shared a 192-run opening stand with Jacob Bethell, who narrowly missed a century with 91.
Joe Root stayed unbeaten on 74 and controlled the innings in the closing overs. Captain Jos Buttler then added the finishing touch with a blistering 41 not out from just 13 balls, pushing England close to the 400-run mark.
India’s young pace attack struggled without injured fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. The bowlers found it difficult to slow England’s scoring as the home side dominated from start to finish.
India began the chase in brilliant fashion. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill put together a 147-run opening partnership that kept the visitors on track. Gill made an impressive 77 before being dismissed.
Rohit played one of the finest knocks of his ODI career, scoring 138 from 110 balls with 17 fours and five sixes. He reached his century in just 84 balls and became the first Indian batter to score an ODI hundred at Lord’s.
The innings also brought more milestones for the Indian captain. It was Rohit’s 34th ODI century and his eighth ODI hundred in England, the most by a visiting batter in a single country, moving him past Sachin Tendulkar. At 39 years and 80 days old, he also became the oldest player to score an ODI century at Lord’s.
Virat Kohli continued his good form with a composed 66 off 76 balls after his fifty in the previous match. During the game, Rohit and Kohli also became the first Indian pair to play 400 international matches together.
India looked well placed before the match turned in England’s favour. Jacob Bethell dismissed Rohit in the 39th over, triggering a collapse that ended India’s hopes of a record chase. Despite the strong start from the top order, India finished on 360 for 7, handing England a memorable series-clinching victory.
