Roger Binny Appointed New BCCI President, Succeeds Sourav Ganguly
Former India cricketer Roger Binny has been elected as the new president of BCCI.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials met on Tuesday for the national cricket governing body’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Taj Hotel in Mumbai, where they announced 1983 World Cup-winning player Roger Binny as the new president of the board.
Binny replaces the former India captain Sourav Ganguly, who was unanimously elected as the BCCI president back in October 2019 to take up the role. Meanwhile, Jay Shah has been re-appointed as the secretary of the apex cricket board of India.
In another set of developments, Ashish Shelar has been appointed as BCCI Treasurer while Arun Dhumal has been appointed as the Indian Premier League (IPL) Chairman. Rajeev Shukla will be the vice president, whereas Devajit Saikia will be the joint secretary.
If reports are to be believed, Binny was the lone candidate who filed a nomination for the reputed post in the Board of Control for Cricket in India. Meanwhile, Ganguly is reportedly set to contest for the presidential role of the Cricket Association of Bengal.
Roger Binny, who was earlier part of the selection committee played 27 Tests and 72 ODIs for India between 1979-1987 and was the president of Karnataka State Cricket Association before being appointed as the president of the richest cricket board.
