Playing IPL is Better Than a T20 Series Against Pakistan – Michael Vaughan
Michael Vaughan stated that playing IPL would have helped the English batters more than playing T20 series against Pakistan.
Former England captain Michael Vaughan believes certain England players would have been better served continuing in the IPL than playing the T20 series against Pakistan.
Vaughan singled out Jos Buttler, Will Jacks, and Phil Salt, arguing that the high-pressure environment of the IPL playoffs would have provided superior preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 compared to the ongoing T20 series against Pakistan.
“Playing in the IPL eliminators, the pressure, crowd, expectation – I would argue that playing here is better preparation than a T20 game against Pakistan,” Vaughan stated on a podcast.
Jos Buttler was part of the Rajasthan Royals group, which recently got eliminated from the tournament after getting hammered by the hands of Sunrisers Hyderabad and the second qualifier of the IPL 2024.
Similarly, Philip Salt, a key player for the Kolkata Knight Riders who will miss the IPL final due to national duty, could have gained valuable experience in the high-octane atmosphere.
Will Jacks, who played for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, could have also profited from further IPL exposure.
All three batters were in excellent form throughout IPL 2024. Jonny Bairstow, Moeen Ali, and Sam Curran, also involved in the IPL, rejoined the England squad after their teams’ eliminations.
The washed-out first T20 between England and Pakistan gave way to a thrilling encounter at Edgbaston, where England emerged victorious by 23 runs to take a 1-0 series lead.
