Sri Lanka Announce Squads for England Tour, Asalanka Named Vice-Captain
Sri Lanka announce ODI and T20I squads for England tour, with Kusal Mendis captain and Charith Asalanka vice-captain.
Sri Lanka have announced their ODI and T20I squads for their upcoming six-match white-ball tour of England in September 2026.
Kusal Mendis will continue to lead Sri Lanka in both formats, while Charith Asalanka has been named vice-captain for the ODI and T20I sides.
Asalanka returns to the T20I squad after an impressive Lanka Premier League 2026 campaign. He scored 385 runs in 11 innings and played a key role in Galle Gladiators’ title win, earning Player of the Match in the final.
Pathum Nissanka also returns to the squad after recovering from an injury. His comeback strengthens Sri Lanka’s top order ahead of the England series.
Dasun Shanaka has made his return to the ODI squad for the first time since January 2024. Sachindu Colombage is another new addition to the 50-over side.
The T20I squad also includes four additions, with Asalanka joined by Lahiru Udara, Janith Liyanage and Tharindu Ratnayake.
The tour will begin on September 15 with a three-match T20I series. The two teams will then face each other in three ODIs as Sri Lanka look to prepare strongly for the busy white-ball season.
Sri Lanka’s England Tour Schedule
The three T20Is will be followed by three ODIs, giving both sides six white-ball matches during the tour.
Sri Lanka will hope their returning players and new faces can make an impact against England, with Asalanka taking on an added leadership role across both formats.
