BCCI Pushes for Quick IPL 2025 Resumption, Final May Be Rescheduled

IPL 2025 likely to resume May 16, final likely to be rescheduled due to delays.

The BCCI has instructed all IPL 2025 franchises, except Punjab Kings, to regroup their squads at respective home venues by Tuesday, signaling preparations for the tournament’s resumption.

The remaining 16 matches, 12 league games and 4 playoffs are tentatively set to restart from May 16, following a week-long suspension due to the India-Pakistan conflict and Operation Sindoor.

However, Punjab Kings will not return to their home bases in Chandigarh or Dharamsala, both considered volatile in the current national security scenario. Instead, they will play their remaining matches at a neutral venue, yet to be confirmed by the board.

“All franchises have been told to inform its team to report to their respective destination by Tuesday. Punjab will have a neutral venue, so their destination is yet to be confirmed. The board is planning to have more double headers so that they can finish the IPL as per its scheduled day,” a source told the national daily.

The BCCI has shortlisted Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad as the three venues to host the remainder of the tournament. The final, originally scheduled for May 25, is likely to be moved to May 30 to accommodate the compressed schedule.

“As the IPL was suspended for a week, there is a possibility of the IPL final now being played on May 30 instead of May 25 with limited venues. The schedule will be sent to all IPL teams by tonight,” source in the BCCI informed

The pause in play came during the DC vs PBKS match at Dharamsala, the board evacuated players and staff amid escalating tensions. With a ceasefire now in place, IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal confirmed that the board is acting swiftly to resume operations and finalize logistics.

“Ceasefire has just been announced. We now explore the possibility of resuming and concluding the IPL. If it is possible to conduct it immediately… We need to work out the venue dates and everything, and we would now be speaking to all the stakeholders, including team owners, broadcasters, and everyone involved and find a way as to how to move forward. Most importantly, we will have to consult with the government,” Dhumal had told The Indian Express.

Franchises are now coordinating with BCCI on the return of overseas players, many of whom flew home during the suspension. The availability of Australian and South African players post-May 25 remains uncertain due to the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) Final.

To make up for lost time, additional double-headers are expected in the revised schedule. The full fixture list is expected to be released soon, pending final clearances from local authorities and security agencies.
