ICC Approves USD 12.82 Million Loan for Cricket West Indies Amid Financial Struggles
ICC approves USD 12.82 million loan for Cricket West Indies as the board battles heavy financial losses, alongside key governance decisions.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has approved a USD 12.82 million loan for Cricket West Indies (CWI) to help the board deal with its ongoing financial problems. The decision was announced after the ICC Annual Meetings in Edinburgh.
The financial support comes at a difficult time for CWI. The board reported a net loss of USD 28 million for the 2025 financial year and has projected another loss of around USD 26 million during the 2026 cycle.
CWI had already warned in its audited financial statements that it would need financial help from the ICC, along with commercial bank funding, to cover its expected cash shortfall. The newly approved loan will help bridge that gap.
This is not the first time CWI has received outside financial support. In 2012, it received ICC-backed funding, and during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, it took a USD 3 million loan from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), which was later repaid.
The ICC Annual Meetings also saw several other important decisions. Mauritius was officially admitted as the ICC’s 111th member, expanding the governing body’s global reach.
The ICC also approved the conditions for the reinstatement of Cricket Canada. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Cricket will remain unable to attend ICC Board meetings until fresh elections are held.
France Cricket was placed on notice over breaches of ICC membership requirements. The governing body also announced the formation of two new groups, the Governance Review Committee and the Franchise League Committee, to strengthen cricket administration and review the growing franchise league landscape.
The decisions reflect the ICC’s focus on supporting financially challenged members while also improving governance and expanding the game’s global footprint.
