Young leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi has had an immediate impact since he played his first game of the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Punjab Kings (PBKS). After delivering a match-winning spell against the Mumbai Indians in his first match of IPL 2021, Ravi Bishnoi took a stunning catch in the ongoing game against Kolkata Knight Riders in Ahmedabad. It helped Punjab Kings to get rid of Sunil Narine in defense of 123.
This happened during the third over of KKR’s run chase that was bowled by Arshdeep Singh. On the final delivery, Arshdeep bowled a slower delivery in the line of leg-stump as Sunil Narine heaved it aggressively to clear the distance. However, he did not get the timing right and at one point, it appeared as if it would cross the deep mid-wicket boundary but, a spirited Ravi Bishnoi covered a lot of distance and then took a diving catch to his right as he ended up pulling off a stunner.
The stunning catch by the young leggie is being called the ‘best catch of IPL 2021’ so far, by fans and experts.
Former England skipper Kevin Pietersen gave special mention to youngster Ravi Bishnoi. According to KP, the catch taken by Bishnoi is the best catch in the history of the tournament.
Bishnoi came into spotlight at the ICC U-19 World Cup 2020 in South Africa where he finished at the tournament’s highest wicket-taker with 17 scalps with India finishing as the runners-up.
He made his IPL debut for PBKS (then Kings XI Punjab) last season when the league was held in the UAE.
Meanwhile, the road to the playoffs is narrowing with each passing game for KL Rahul-led PBKS as they have managed just two wins from six matches so far. On Monday, they struggled to 123/9 with Mayank Agarwal (31) and Chris Jordan (30) the only two players to make a significant contribution.
