Afghanistan to Host India in Historic T20I Series in New Delhi

Afghanistan will host India in a historic three-match T20I series from September 13 to 17, 2026, with all three games set to be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has confirmed that the dates and venues were agreed with the BCCI. The series will be the first bilateral tour in which Afghanistan officially hosts India.

ACB CEO Naseeb Khan confirmed the schedule, saying the dates and venues for the India tour of Afghanistan 2026 had been finalised with the BCCI.

The ACB has also informed media rights holders to begin planning their broadcast, production, promotion and other arrangements based on the confirmed schedule.

The series will also have a major impact on India’s proposed white-ball tour of Bangladesh, which was scheduled for early September. With the Afghanistan series now confirmed, India’s Bangladesh tour is effectively set to be cancelled.

All three matches will be played in New Delhi, despite Afghanistan being the official host team. The decision was reached after discussions between the ACB and BCCI.

There is also a possibility of a slight change to the match dates. The ACB has discussed adjustments to align the series with Ganesh Chaturthi, which falls during this period.

ITW Universe holds the media rights for the series, while FanCode has secured the digital rights. The linear broadcast rights are still being finalised with major television networks.

ITW co-founder Bhairav Shanth called the series a landmark moment for Afghanistan and India.

“This marks a landmark moment, Afghanistan officially hosting India in a bilateral series for the first time,” Shanth said. He added that ITW Universe and its partners will bring new visual and storytelling features to the broadcast.

The series will give Afghanistan another chance to face one of the world’s strongest T20 teams while marking a new chapter in cricket ties between the two nations.
