Afghanistan Beat Ireland to Seal Direct ODI World Cup Qualification

Afghanistan defeated Ireland by three wickets in the third ODI to take a 2-0 lead in the five-match series and secure direct qualification for the upcoming ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.

Ireland were bowled out for 206 in 46.3 overs after a late fightback from their lower order. They were in deep trouble at 128/8 before Gavin Hoey and Jai Moondra added 76 runs for the ninth wicket.

Hoey scored 36, while Moondra helped Ireland push their total past 200. Afghanistan, however, kept their discipline with the ball and eventually wrapped up the innings.

Chasing 207, Afghanistan made a strong start as Rahmanullah Gurbaz led the way with a well-made 71. The opener gave his side control before Ireland fought back with regular wickets.

Afghanistan slipped from a comfortable position to 177/7, leaving the match in the balance. With the pressure rising, Rashid Khan stepped up with the bat and kept the chase on track.

Rashid remained unbeaten on 37 and took Afghanistan across the finishing line in 44.5 overs. His calm knock proved crucial as Afghanistan completed the chase with three wickets in hand.

Rashid had also made an impact with the ball, taking 3/44. His all-round effort played a key role in Afghanistan’s victory and helped them complete a memorable qualification campaign.

The win gave Afghanistan an unassailable 2-0 lead in the five-match series. More importantly, the points secured their direct place at the next ODI World Cup, meaning Afghanistan will feature at the tournament for a fourth consecutive time.
