Bangladesh Hopes to Resolve Deadlock Over India’s September Tour Soon
Bangladesh hopes to resolve tensions with India soon and clear the way for the September white-ball series.
Bangladesh is hopeful of resolving the diplomatic deadlock surrounding India’s scheduled white-ball tour in September, with talks between the two countries continuing at the ministerial level.
India are scheduled to play three ODIs and three T20Is in Bangladesh from September 1 to 13. The tour was earlier postponed from 2025 amid political tensions between the two countries.
Bangladesh State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque said discussions with India are ongoing and that both sides want to keep cricket separate from political issues.
“It is being worked on at the ministerial level. I have already spoken to the Foreign Minister today and they are also talking to the Indian Foreign Minister,” Aminul said.
Political tensions increased after ousted Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina held a virtual press conference from Delhi on August 5. However, Aminul played down suggestions that the incident had damaged sporting ties between the two countries.
“No no no… I don’t think so that our relationship is strained due to that press conference. I think sports means sports, and through sports a good relationship is created with all our neighboring countries,” he said.
Bangladesh is also keen to settle the differences that developed around the 2026 T20 World Cup. The country did not take part in the tournament after refusing to play its matches in India, adding another layer of tension to India-Bangladesh cricket ties.
Aminul said Bangladesh wants the issue resolved quickly and remains hopeful that the September series will go ahead as planned.
“We want to quickly resolve the deadlock that was created around the World Cup. Inshallah, we are hopeful that it will be resolved very soon,” he said.
Recent diplomatic meetings have also raised hopes of progress. The Indian High Commissioner met Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, while talks between the foreign ministries of both countries have continued.
“We strongly want to maintain the cordiality and friendly relationship between Bangladesh and India, including the cricket series between the two countries. We hope that this matter will be resolved very soon,” Aminul added.
The September tour is important for both teams and is already part of Bangladesh’s 2026 home international schedule. The six-match series includes three ODIs and three T20Is.
