Abishek Porel Arrested in Sexual Assault Case, Sent to Police Custody

Bengal cricketer and Delhi Capitals wicketkeeper-batter Abishek Porel has been arrested by Hooghly Police in a case involving allegations of rape, sexual assault and criminal intimidation.

Porel was arrested on August 10 following an order from the Calcutta High Court dated July 20. A court on August 11 remanded him to three days of police custody as the investigation continues.

The case began after a medical student filed a complaint with the police on June 23. She alleged that Porel sexually exploited her after promising to marry her during their three-year relationship.

Police have registered charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act. The allegations are being investigated by the authorities, and Porel is yet to face trial.

Authorities have also seized Porel’s mobile phone as part of the investigation. Police are looking into concerns over the possible circulation of photographs linked to the case.

Porel is a professional cricketer who represents Bengal in domestic cricket and plays for Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League. He has featured in 32 first-class matches and 35 IPL games.

The investigation is now underway, with police custody expected to help authorities examine the allegations and gather further evidence in the case.
