Former Sri Lankan International player Suraj Randiv, who was a part of Sri Lanka’s ICC 2011 World Cup squad, is now working as a bus driver in Australia to earn his living. He is working in Melbourne for a French-based company known as Transdev.
Randiv played for MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings in 2011 and 2013 and earned almost 75 Lakhs for his effort. Other than CSK, Randiv has played 12 Tests, 31 ODI’s, and 7 T20’s for Sri Lanka including ICC World Cup in 2011.
The Suraj Randiv despite his day job, has been very much active as a cricketer in the local circuit and was recently called by Cricket Australia to help the Australian team during the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India a few months ago.
‘I was asked by CA to come and bowl against their bowlers and I didn’t want to miss the opportunity,’ Randiv said.
Randiv is not the lone international cricketer who is currently driving buses in Melbourne.
Besides him, there are two other international cricketers Waddington Mwayenga and Chinthaka Namaste who are working as bus drivers for Trensdev.
Currently, Randiv has been playing cricket for the Dandenong Cricket Club, which is affiliated with Victoria Premier Cricket and takes part in Cricket Australia State Competitions. James Pattinson, Peter Siddle, and Sarah Elliot are some of the Australian cricketers how have played for this club.
As far as Chinthaka Jayasinghe is concerned, the right-arm medium pacer made his T20I debut against India in 2009 and went on to represent Sri Lanka in 5 matches.
Waddington Mwayenga, on the other hand, was a medium-pacer, who represented Sri Lanka in 1 Test and 3 ODIs between 2002-2005, claiming 1 wicket each in both formats.
