India is all set to engage with Joe Root and his boys in the five-match Test series which is still more than a month away. However, things are not looking settled for the visitors as reports are coming that their young opener Shubman Gill can ruled out of the first Test against England.
As per reports, Gill has been injured and given the seriousness of the injury, Gill might even get ruled out of the whole series.
Team India is backing the 21-year old ever since he made his Test debut on the tour of Australia. Despite his ‘not so good performance’ in home series against England, he was allowed to open along with Robit Sharma in the final of the World Test Championship.
Though he once again failed to deliver good results with the bat, it was being speculated that he will be keep opening for India in the upcoming 5-Match Test series.
According to reports of Cricbuzz, the young opener is believed to be suffering from a serious internal injury, due to which is expected to be sidelined for a considerable period of time. The seriousness of the injury, however is yet to be known but as per reports it is being speculated that he will not be available for first Test and if it would be serious, he can miss the complete series.
Who Will Open If Shubman Gill Ruled Out Of First Test?
In Gill’s absence, it is likely that Team India will turn to one of the other two openers in the squad; Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul, to start with Rohit Sharma. Both the openers were not a part of the 15-member squad for the WTC Final.
Agarwal hasn’t appeared in an international game in England but has the experience of 14 Tests behind him. KL Rahul, on the other hand has already played 36 Tests for India, scoring over 2000 runs at an average of 34.59. He also has a stunning knock of 149 runs to his name in the English conditions, which came during a tour in 2018.
The first Test will commence on August 4 at Trent Bridge, Nottingham and the final contest will be played in Manchester from September 10-14.
