

Mumbai captain Prithvi Shaw, who had already got passed Mayank Agarwal’s tally for most runs in one season of the tournament during the semi-final against Karnataka, continued with his red hot form on Sunday as he became the first player to breach the 800-run mark in a single edition of the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Shaw achieved the feat during his 73-run knock against Uttar Pradesh in the ongoing final of Vijay Hazare Trophy at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Shaw finished the tournament with 827 runs in 8 matches. He was eventually dismissed after a top-edged Shivam Mavi bouncer straight to backward square-leg.
Shaw hit 10 fours and four sixes in his stay in the middle. That Shaw’s innings came after he had to be carried off the filed with an injury during UP’s innings, speaks volumes about the character of the youngster.
Shaw, also missed out on what would have been his 5th hundred of the season and his third consecutive one. Shaw’s previous tons include 105* (89) against Delhi, 227 (152) against Puducherry, 185* (123) against Saurashtra and 165 (122) against Karnataka.
Last week, Shaw broke Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Virat Kohli’s record of the highest individual score by an Indian batsman in a List A chase. Prithvi achieved the feat when he hammered an unbeaten 185 off 123 balls against Saurashtra on Tuesday.
