The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah confirmed after a meeting on Thursday, July 27 that there will be no provision for e-tickets for the World Cup 2023 even though tickets for the marquee event will be sold online.
In order to provide fans with a smooth ticketing process and spare them the inconvenience of long queues, the BCCI is preparing to set up several ticket-collection points at venues, a week or so before each match.
“We can’t use e-tickets this time around but will ensure to have physical tickets redemption at 7-8 centres well in advance. But a physical tickets need to be retained,” Jay Shah told reporters.
“It will get difficult to manage e-tickets at high-capacity venues like Ahmedabad and Lucknow. Our plan is to start using e-tickets more in bilaterals first and then take it to multi-nation events like the World Cup,” the BCCI secretary went on to add,” he added.
World Cup 2023 Ticket Sales Opening Soon!
According to Jay Shah’s statement, the ICC and the BCCI will be making a joint announcement about ticket sales shortly, with the partners for the event already chosen. However, there is a high chance that tickets will go on sale next week.
“We had a word with the state associations today on the tickets. 90 percent of the associations came with the manifests and 1-2 didn’t have it ready. We have given them time till Monday to sort it out. The ICC and BCCI will then jointly announce ticket pricing and everything. The ticketing partner is also almost sorted.”
