Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 3 wickets in a low scoring thriller on Wednesday at the DY Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai.
The chase looked easy but RCB kept lost wickets at regular intervals before Dinesh Karthik helped them cross the finish line in the final over.
Faf du Plessis-led side needed 17 runs in the last 2 overs, when Dinesh Karthik, joined hands with Harshal Patel and finished the game with a boundary. The team chased the target in the final over with a loss of seven wickets. Dinesh Karthik scored unbeaten 14 runs from seven balls.
RCB captain Faf du Plessis, while appreciating Dinesh Karthik in the post-match presentation, stated that the 36-year old wicket-keeper batter is as cool as MS Dhoni.
“We would like to be more convincing. Just the experience. The runs were never a problem. We just needed to have wickets in hand. DK is as close as it gets to MS Dhoni when it comes to being ice-cool” Du Plessis said in the post-match presentation.
RCB had lost their opening game of the season against Punjab Kings (PBKS). Dinesh Karthik looked equally impressive in the first game as well, scoring an unbeaten 32 off 14 balls to help his side go past 200.
Earlier in the innings, RCB lost three quick wickets and were reduced to 17/3. Sherfane Rutherford scored 28 and Shahbaz Ahmed amassed 27 runs and steadied the ship. Du Plessis further said that the low scoring games are crucial at the start of the tournament. At the same time, he also hailed the opposition bowlers for the way they bowled.
“Very happy. Close small margins game is very important at the start. Small score, we just tried to be positive but very good bowling from their seamers. The ball swung a little earlier but today there was seam and bounce. Two-three days ago, it was 200 and today it was 130,” he stated.
