IND vs ENG: Yashasvi Jaiswal Breaks 51-Year-Old Record at Edgbaston – Leaves Gavaskar, Pujara Behind!

Jaiswal breaks 51-year Edgbaston record with 87; now just 10 runs away from fastest 2,000 Test runs by an Indian

Yashasvi Jaiswal showed his class again in the second Test against England at Edgbaston. He opened the innings for India and batted with full confidence. He attacked the English bowlers from the start and gave India a great beginning.

Jaiswal scored 87 runs before getting out. He missed a well-deserved century but his innings was filled with beautiful shots. He hit 13 fours and looked in complete control throughout his knock.

Jaiswal breaks Sudhir Naik’s record

With this innings, Yashasvi Jaiswal created history. He became the Indian opener with the highest Test score at Edgbaston. He broke a 51-year-old record held by Sudhir Naik, who had scored 77 at the same venue in 1974.

Other Indian openers like Sunil Gavaskar (68), Cheteshwar Pujara (66), and Chetan Chauhan (56) were also on the list, but Jaiswal now tops it with his 87.

Jaiswal close to another big milestone

Since making his Test debut in 2023, the left-handed opener has been a key player for India. In just 21 Test matches, Jaiswal has scored 1,990 runs, which includes 5 centuries and 12 fifties.

He now needs just 10 more runs to complete 2,000 Test runs. If he gets these runs in the second innings or in the third Test at Lord’s, he will break Sunil Gavaskar’s record and become the fastest Indian to reach this milestone.

India end Day 1 on 310/5

India finished Day 1 with 310 runs for 5 wickets. Captain Shubman Gill scored a brilliant century and helped India take control. He became the fourth Indian captain to hit back-to-back centuries in his first two matches as captain.

At one stage, India lost quick wickets. But Gill and Ravindra Jadeja added 99 runs for the sixth wicket and gave the team a strong finish. India will now aim to add at least 200 more runs on Day 2. But it will be a tough job, and Gill will have to play a big role again.
