IND vs ENG: Shubman Gill Mimics Virat Kohli’s Famous Roar After Century at Edgbaston

Shubman Gill roars with century at Edgbaston, echoing Virat Kohli’s iconic 2018 celebration. India 310/5 at stumps

Shubman Gill, known as the prince of Indian cricket, is now batting at number four. This is the same spot where Virat Kohli, the king of Indian cricket, used to bat.

He has big shoes to fill, but so far on this England tour, Gill has done a great job.

India’s new Test captain, Shubman Gill, scored a brilliant century in the first innings of the second Test at Edgbaston.

After reaching his hundred, he let out a loud roar. This moment reminded many fans of Virat Kohli’s famous roar at the same ground back in 2018.

England won the toss and bowled first

On Day 1, England won the toss and decided to bowl first. India lost KL Rahul early, but then Yashasvi Jaiswal and Gill added 66 runs together.

Wickets kept falling from one side, but Gill stayed strong from the other end.

Gill’s celebration reminds fans of Kohli

In the 80th over of the innings, Gill was batting on 98. Joe Root bowled a full and wide ball down the leg side. Gill quickly played a sweep shot and sent the ball past backward square leg for a four.

As soon as the ball hit the boundary, Gill let out a loud roar to celebrate his hundred. He raised his bat and helmet, shouted “come on” with passion, and bowed to the crowd. The celebration looked similar to what Virat Kohli did at the same venue in 2018.

Kohli’s iconic moment in 2018

In 2018, Kohli was under pressure after a poor tour in 2014. But he shut down all critics with a brilliant 149-run knock in the first innings at Edgbaston.

He also scored a half-century in the second innings. Now, Gill seems to be walking the same path. Many doubted his batting in English conditions. But in just two matches, he has scored two centuries.

Day 1 stumps update

At stumps on Day 1, India scored 310 for 5. Shubman Gill remained unbeaten on 114. Ravindra Jadeja is batting with him on 41 from 67 balls.
