Kings XI Punjab beat Delhi Capitals by five wickets on Wednesday. It was Punjab’s third consecutive and fourth overall win in the ongoing tournament. On the other hand, it was Delhi Capitals’ third defeat in the ten matches. They, however, remain at the top of the points table with 14 points.
Meanwhile, Kings XI Punjab made a high jump and moved to the fifth spot in the points table.
Delhi Capitals won the toss and elected to bat first. Batting first, they posted 164 runs on the board, thanks to Shikhar Dhawan’s century. Shikhar Dhawan had made a second consecutive century in the IPL 2020. Also, he has completed his 5000 runs in the IPL.
But this celebration didn’t last for long as his century went in vain as his side lost the match by five wickets.
Talking about Delhi’s inning, not even a single batsman except Dhawan performed well. While Prithvi Shaw could score only 7 of 11, DC skipper Shreyas Iyer also got dismissed for 14. Rishabh Pant and Marcus Stoinis also didn’t make an impact and got dismissed for 14 and 9 respectively. Shimron Hetmyer contributed just 10 runs and got dismissed on the last ball of the final over.
Speaking in the post-match conference, DC skipper Shreyas Iyer said that his side was 10 runs short. He also mentioned Tushar Deshpande’s poor outing, as he conceded 41 runs in just two overs. He also hailed Shikhar Dhawan for his brilliant batting skills.
“I feel that we fell around 10 runs short, but we got a lot of learnings from this game. Shikhar’s batting was positive. Tushar leaked runs but that happens to the best of us. I’m sure he will come back,” said Shreyas Iyer.
“Shikhar read the wicket well, adapted to the situation, he went hard from ball one and passed the message onto the youngsters that the wicket is stopping. He acclimatised to the conditions quicker the others. The good thing is that the boys will be charged up for the next game. We weren’t up to the mark tonight, but I’m sure we will be next time,” he added.
