Mitchell Owen Replaces Glenn Maxwell in Punjab Kings Squad for Remainder of IPL 2025
Mitchell Owen replaced injured Glenn Maxwell in Punjab Kings for reminder of IPL 2025

Punjab Kings have announced the signing of young Australian batter Mitchell Owen as a replacement for Glenn Maxwell for the rest of the IPL 2025 season.
Maxwell has been ruled out due to a finger injury. The Australian all-rounder got injured before Punjab Kings‘ rained-out game against Kolkata Knight Riders. In that match, he scored only 7 runs, continuing his poor form in this season.
Taking to their social media, Punjab Kings confirmed Maxwell’s exit from the tournament and wished him a speedy recovery.
Maxwell was replaced by Suryansh Shedge in PBKS’ last match against Chennai Super Kings, which they won by four wickets. It has been a forgettable season for Maxwell, who could only score 48 runs in seven matches at an average of 8, while taking four wickets with the ball.
His PBKS teammate and fellow Australian, Marcus Stoinis, confirmed the injury before their match against CSK.
“Unfortunately, Maxi’s broken his finger. He broke it just before the last game at training. He didn’t think it was too bad, but it ended up getting pretty bad. The scans weren’t great, so it’s likely he’s out for the tournament,” Stoinis told Jiostar.
Mitchell Owen, who was playing for Peshawar Zalmi until last night, will now travel to India to join Punjab Kings for the remaining matches of IPL 2025.
Owen is a talented batter and made headlines during the last Big Bash League season. He finished as the tournament’s highest run-scorer with 452 runs from 11 matches and even smashed a brilliant century in the final against Sydney Thunder, helping Hobart Hurricanes lift the title.
Punjab Kings will be hoping Owen brings the same form to IPL 2025 as they look to strengthen their squad in Maxwell’s absence.
