The 39th match of the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was played between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Abu Dhabi in which RCB won the match by 8 wickets.
The Bangalore based franchise thrashed KKR by 8 wickets to register their seventh win in the tournament and came one step closer to reaching the playoffs.
KKR skipper Eoin Morgan won the toss and decided to bat first but batting first, KKR couldn’t perform the way they planned. In front of Siraj’s superb bowling, Kolkata’s team could only manage 84 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs. It was the lowest score scored by any team this season.
Royal Challengers Bangalore, on the other hand, marked an easy win by achieving the target in just 13.3 over. With this win, Bangalore’s team has moved up to second place in the table, while Kolkata’s team is still at number four. RCB now have to win just one match from the remaining four matches to reach the play-offs.
Speaking in the post-match conference, Eoin Morgan clearly stated that he misread the pitch, considering the dew factor. He also said that his top three batsmen have shown potential. Lastly, he wished for Andre Russell and Sunil Narine’s comeback in the next match.
“Being 4/5 down early on isn’t the position we wanted to be in. RCB bowled well and probably looking at the conditions, we should have bowled first. We will learn our lessons and move on in the next game. It was a question of backing the young Indian guys who showed glimpses of talent and potential. They (RCB bowlers) managed to exploit anything that was on offer and given the nature of the tournament every time you have to be at your best against every team. Hopefully, they (Narine and Russell) will be available around the corner and we know when guys of that calibre, particularly all-rounders are available, things will be different. Hopefully, they will be available soon,” Morgan told in the post-match presentation.
