The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has suffered a major blow after Suresh Raina pulled out of the 13th edition of Indian Premier League citing personal reasons. Another great blow was the absence of the veteran player Harbhajan Singh. He also pulled out of IPL 2020 due to some personal reasons.
The replacement for both, Raina and Harbhajan Singh is yet to find. The franchise has not announced any replacement for the veterans as of now. But according to the recent reports, Chennai Super Kings is in discussion with English player David Malan.
David Malan bats at number three for England and is very consistent as well.
The left-hander has secured 1st position in ICC T20I rankings for batsmen. Not just this, Malan was the highest run-stealer with 129 runs in three innings at an average of 43 while batting at third position. His strike-rate is 138.71, which is good enough to prove that Malan is in a great form in the T20 format.
Now coming back to the matter, the CSK source told InsideSport that the discussions are on with David Malan but nothing is finalised yet.
“These are just discussions, nothing has been finalized as such. Malan is a very accomplished T20 player. He is also a left-hander like Raina. But team management hasn’t taken any final call on whether to call for Raina’s replacement or not,” the CSK source told InsideSport.
This move of CSK is quite surprising as Suresh Raina recently said that he might return to the CSK camp at some point in future this season.
Also, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) CEO Kasi Viswanathan had earlier said that they will not look for Raina’s replacement. In anyways, if they are thinking to replace Raina with David Malan, it will turn out to be a very good move as Malan is a very consistent player and also is in a good form.
