BCCI Threatens to Sack, Rohit Sharma Announces Retirement From Test Cricket With Immediate Effect

Rohit Sharma has announced his retirement from Test cricket after reports of BCCI planning to remove him as captain.

Rohit Sharma has announced his retirement from Test cricket with immediate effect. He shared the news through an Instagram story. Rohit thanked everyone for their support and said it was an honour to play for India in whites. He also confirmed that he will continue to play ODI cricket for India.

Rohit Sharma, 38, played 67 Test matches in his career. He scored 4301 runs with 12 centuries and 18 fifties. His average in Test cricket was 40.57. In the second half of his career, he became India’s top batter in the format.

He also led India to the World Test Championship final against Australia. But recently, India had a tough time under his captaincy. India lost five out of their last six Tests — against New Zealand at home and Australia away.

BCCI Decides To Sack Rohit Sharma As Test Captain

As per reports, the BCCI selectors decided to remove Rohit Sharma from Test captaincy before the England tour. The Ajit Agarkar-led panel was not happy with Rohit’s recent form in red-ball cricket. They informed the BCCI and the board supported their call.

According to reports, Rohit may still travel to England but only as a specialist batter. The selectors held several meetings, including the latest one in Mumbai, to plan the future of India’s Test team. This decision came even after Rohit had expressed his wish to lead India in England during a podcast.

Rohit also dropped himself from the playing XI in the last Test in Sydney after struggling with form.
