The ICC World Cup 2023 kicked off on Thursday, October 5 with the opening match featuring the reigning champions England and New Zealand at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
In the opening match of the ICC World Cup 2023, a significant and unprecedented record was set as for the first time in the history of ODIs, all 11 batters from a single team (England) scored in double-digits.
Earlier, New Zealand won the toss and opted to bowl first. England, afterwards putting to bat first, managed to amass 282 runs on the scoreboard for the loss of nine wickets within the stipulated 50 overs.
What stood out was that all 11 English batters achieved double-digit scores, and none of them were dismissed in single digits and this happened for the first time in the history of 4,658 ODIs played.
Joe Root top scored for England, having scored 77 runs from 86 balls. Apart from him, captain Jos Buttler, Jonny Bairstow, and Liam Livingstone also chipped in with valuable contributions.
