IPL 2024: ‘RCB Team Let Kohli Down, Could’ve Scored 120 Runs’ – Sunil Gavaskar

Virat Kohli remained unbeaten for 83 runs from 59 balls.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) beat Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by seven wickets in the most recent IPL 2024 match at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, on Friday, March 29.

RCB, who were put to bat first after KKR won the toss, posted 182 runs on the scoreboard for the loss of six wickets, with Virat Kohli top-scoring with an unbeaten 83 runs from 59 balls. His knock was adorned with four boundaries and as many sixes.

However, after RCB lost the game, fans expressed their frustration and blamed Virat Kohli for the defeat against KKR, believing he could have scored at a better strike rate, especially after witnessing the way KKR openers played on this Bengaluru pitch.

Amidst all the criticism, former Indian captain and legend Sunil Gavaskar has come to the defence of Virat Kohli, stating that if anyone from the RCB team had supported him from the other end, he could have scored 120 runs and not just 83.

Here is what Sunil Gavaskar told Star Sports:

“Virat Kohli would have definitely scored 120 had he got the support from his teammates. How much will Kohli do on his own? This is a team sport, not a single man game.”

Notably, after Virat Kohli, the second-highest run-scorer was Cameron Green, who scored 33 runs from 21 balls. It was a lacklustre performance from both batting and bowling fronts from RCB, which ultimately cost them the game against KKR.
