Shreyas Iyer Takes Break from Cricket, Writes Letter to BCCI
Shreyas Iyer opts out of red-ball cricket citing back issues, skips West Indies Test series and doubtful for Ranji Trophy.
Shreyas Iyer has decided to take a break from red-ball cricket. The middle-order batter informed chief selector Ajit Agarkar that his back is not ready for the demands of long-format matches and requested not to be considered for the upcoming home Test series against the West Indies.
Shreyas recently pulled out of the second unofficial Test for India A against Australia A in Lucknow. He was originally named captain, but Dhruv Jurel stepped in after his withdrawal.
While he initially told the India A management that he had gone to Mumbai for personal reasons, he later formally informed Agarkar through a letter about his fitness concerns.
The 30-year-old, who led Punjab Kings to the IPL 2025 final, is now also a doubtful starter for the Ranji Trophy season beginning October 15.
According to reports, he will move to the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru for further assessment and recovery.
This is not the first time Shreyas has faced back trouble. He had experienced discomfort during the previous domestic season as well.
