WTC Qualification Scenario After IND vs SL 2026: India’s WTC Final Race Gets Tougher After Sri Lanka Draw
India need at least five wins from seven Tests to boost their WTC Final hopes after a 1-0 Sri Lanka series win.
India’s road to the 2027 World Test Championship Final has become tougher after the second Test against Sri Lanka ended in a draw in Colombo.
India won the two-Test series 1-0 and now sit fifth in the WTC 2025-27 points table with 68 points and a 51.52% points percentage.
The result cost India the chance to take a 2-0 series sweep. They also remain behind Australia, South Africa and New Zealand in the current standings.
India have seven Tests left in the WTC cycle. They will play two Tests away against New Zealand before returning home for a five-Test series against Australia.
The upcoming matches will be crucial, with India needing a strong run of results to move into contention for a place in the WTC Final at The Oval in 2027.
India are expected to target at least five wins from their remaining seven Tests. That would put them around the 60% points percentage mark and keep their qualification hopes strong.
However, the margin for error is now small. Losing more than two of the remaining seven Tests could seriously hurt India’s chances of reaching the final.
The two-Test series in New Zealand will be a major test, especially with India playing away from home. A strong result there would give them valuable momentum before the five-Test Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia.
The home series against Australia could prove decisive in India’s WTC campaign. Winning most of those Tests would put India in a much stronger position before the final stages of the cycle.
For now, India remain firmly in the race, but the path has become much harder after the Colombo draw. They will need consistency across their final seven Tests to keep their WTC Final hopes alive.
