“RCB is my team,” says Rishi Sunak

In an interview with Times Of India, Rishi Sunak spoke about his strong personal connection to RCB.

He said, “I’m married into a Bangalore family, so RCB is my team.”

Sunak also recalled proposing to his wife Akshata Murty in Kannada, even though he wasn’t fluent in the language at the time.

He shared that his in-laws gave him an RCB jersey after his wedding, and since then, he has been following the team closely.

Kohli his favourite, hopes from English players

Rishi Sunak mentioned that Virat Kohli is his favourite cricketer and called him a “total legend.” He also revealed that he owns a bat signed by Indian Minister S. Jaishankar, which was gifted to him during his time at Downing Street. Sunak said it is one of his most prized possessions.

He also expressed hopes that RCB’s English players like Phil Salt and Liam Livingstone will perform well in the final. “Let’s bring it home,” he added.

IPL’s global impact praised

Rishi Sunak praised the IPL for changing the face of world cricket. He said the tournament has helped players from around the world improve their skills and shared that he recently watched Jacob Bethell play a great innings for England, adding that the IPL had improved his game.

Sunak also spoke about the Women’s Premier League and said it has brought more girls into the sport. He added that the IPL’s global reach reflects the influence India has today in world culture.

He ended by talking about cricket’s return to the Olympics in 2028, saying, “Why is cricket back in the Olympics after 100 years? Because of India.”

With Sunak’s support in the stands, RCB will hope to end their long wait for an IPL trophy and create history in Ahmedabad.
