Playing in PSL is More Rewarding Than IPL: Dale Steyn

Dale Steyn, on Friday, February 26, made his debut in the 2021 Pakistan Super League (PSL), representing the Quetta Gladiators in their match against the Peshawar Zalmi at the National Stadium in Karachi.

Meanwhile, the fast bowler, on March 2 praised the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and called it more rewarding than the Indian Premier League (IPL).

While talking to Cricket Pakistan in an exclusive interview, Steyn compared the PSL with other T20 leagues, saying that cricket gets forgotten, amid money talks, in the IPL which is why he decided against playing in the upcoming season.

“I wanted some time off. I found that playing in these other leagues was slightly more rewarding as a player. I think when you go to IPL, there are such big squads and so many big names and so much emphasis on maybe the amount of money players earn and everything like that, so sometimes, somewhere down the line, cricket gets forgotten,” said Steyn.

Steyn further said that in Pakistan Super League or Sri Lanka Premier League, there is an importance of cricket, unlike other leagues where only much emphasis is on the number of money players earn.

“When you come to like a PSL or the Sri Lankan Premier League, for that matter, there is an importance on the cricket. I have only been here for a couple of days and I have had people in and out of my room, just wanting to know about where I have played and how I went about it.

Whereas, when I go to something like the IPL that gets forgotten and the main topic is how much money did you go for in this IPL? That’s just me being brutally honest. I wanted to stay away from that and really put more emphasis on playing and bringing good vibes to good cricket teams and tournaments I feel are worth it,” he added.

Dale Steyn Lashes Out at Commentator Over ‘Mid-Life Crisis’ Comment

Steyn, a few days ago lashed out at commentator Simon Doull for his comments about his long hair. Referring to Steyn’s long hair, Doull was heard saying:

“A little mid-life crisis with that hair” while the camera captured Steyn sitting in the dressing room. His fellow commentator was also heard saying “Lockdown hair”.

Later, Steyn took to social media and urged his fans to identify the commentator who had made the remark about his hair. After a fan posted a video of the clip which has gone viral, the Proteas pacer had a message for Doull.

“If your job is to talk about the game, then do that,” Steyn said in a Twitter post.
