‘Not Fair’: KKR Questions IPL’s Mid-Season Rule Change in Letter to BCCI

Kolkata Knight Riders have written to the BCCI, expressing their disappointment over the mid-season rule change that affected their playoff chances.

The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have expressed their disappointment to the BCCI over the sudden rule changes during the ongoing IPL 2025 season.

According to a report by Cricbuzz, KKR’s CEO Venky Mysore sent an email to IPL COO Hemang Amin after the RCB vs SRH match was moved from Bengaluru to Lucknow due to bad weather.

Bengaluru has been hit by heavy pre-monsoon rains over the past week, which resulted in the KKR vs RCB match getting washed out on May 17. The result ended KKR’s hopes of making it to the playoffs.

Mysore, in his email, said that if the additional 120-minute rain delay rule had been in place earlier, the match might have still happened, even if it was only a 5-over game.

He said while the rule change might have been needed, the timing and inconsistency in applying it was unfair. He wrote that the forecast for May 17 had been known in advance and questioned why the rule wasn’t introduced before that game.

“While these mid-season changes to the rules may be necessary… one would have expected more consistency,” Mysore wrote.

KKR currently sit outside the top four, with only five wins in the league. Two of their matches have been washed out. They have just one league game left, which is against Sunrisers Hyderabad a match that has now been moved to New Delhi.

Meanwhile, after May 20, the IPL added an extra hour of buffer time to matches to counter rain delays. This decision, along with the venue shift for RCB vs SRH, left KKR feeling they were treated unfairly.
