IND vs ENG: “Not My Decision”: Shubman Gill Reveals Who Asked Him to Bat at No. 4 in Tests

Shubman Gill confirms No. 4 batting role, shares India’s bold Test strategy ahead of England series at Headingley

Shubman Gill, the new captain of the Indian Test team, spoke to the media ahead of the first Test against England at Headingley. The five-match Test series starts on Friday, and Gill gave some clear answers about his batting position and India’s plans for the series.

Gill to Bat at Number Four

With Virat Kohli retiring from Test cricket, there were questions about who would take his spot in the middle order. Gill confirmed that he will bat at number four in this series.

“After Virat bhai retired, I had a chat with GG (Gautam Gambhir), and we decided that I will bat at number four,” Gill said. He also mentioned that the number three position is still open and will be decided after looking at the pitch conditions once again.

Focus on Taking 20 Wickets

Talking about team combination, Gill said that India will not hesitate to go with five bowlers if needed.

“You can’t win a Test match without picking up 20 wickets. If that means playing with pure bowlers, we are fine with it,” he explained.

Winning in SENA Countries Means More Than IPL

Gill also shared his love for Test cricket. “Winning a Test series in SENA countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia) means way more than winning the IPL. IPL comes every year, but Test wins abroad are special,” he added.

The young skipper stressed the importance of communication. “As a captain, it’s important to be honest. Some players will get more chances based on their potential, but we will be clear with everyone about their role,” Gill said.

He also praised England’s playing style and said that India will also play exciting cricket to get results.
