“How Can You Play Pakistan After Pahalgam Attack?” Ex-Indian Cricketer Tears Into BCCI
Amit Mishra opposes India-Pakistan Asia Cup 2025 clash, says cricket must respect fans’ emotions amid rising tensions.
Former India spinner Amit Mishra has called for sensitivity ahead of the high-voltage India-Pakistan Asia Cup clash in Dubai on September 14.
With tensions high after the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Mishra believes cricket should not ignore the sentiments of Indian fans.
Mishra’s Strong Words On Fan Sentiment
Speaking to ANI, Mishra said cricketers represent more than just themselves when they take the field.
“When we play for India, our people’s emotions are connected to us. Even India legends earlier said they won’t play Pakistan. That’s how deeply fans are connected to the team,” he explained.
Mishra reminded that during the World Championship of Legends earlier this year, India Champions twice refused to play Pakistan, once in the group stage and again in the semi-final. As a result, Pakistan moved into the final but eventually lost to South Africa.
What The Government Stands On
Despite voices like Mishra urging a boycott, the Indian government has kept its stance unchanged. Bilateral cricket with Pakistan remains suspended, but India will continue to face Pakistan in ICC and ACC tournaments.
The Sports Ministry underlined that pulling out of such global events could hurt India’s long-term sporting ambitions, including bids for hosting the Olympics and Commonwealth Games.
