Mumbai Indians mentor and New Zealand veteran pacer Shane Bond believes that despite being his first pink-ball experience, Bumrah can prove to be a handful in the first day-night test against Australia.
India is all set to face Australia in the first test of the four-match series starting with a day-night match in Adelaide from December 17. Virat Kohli will captain India for the last time in the tour and will return India on paternity leave.
Australia played 7 pink-ball test matches and won all of them. Contrary, India have yet to experience their first international day-night Test match.
Jasprit Bumrah hasn’t played a single pink-ball Test will bring some pressure to the young pacer and create some tension to the Indian side. As the trio of Shami, Bumrah and Ishant Sharma rattled Australia in the previous Border Gavaskar Trophy.
“Booms [Bumrah] has been out here before and been very successful but he’s still interested in different ways to do things. That’s one of his greatest strengths,” Bond told AAP.
“If he has the ball at the right time of night and it’s reasonably new then he can banana it both ways at 145k plus and do all sorts of damage.”
Jasprit Bumrah struggles in the ODI series against Australia, picking just 4 wickets in 3 matches. However, Bumrah creates trouble for the Australia A batsmen at Sydney Cricket Ground last week.
“He takes a great deal of pride in his performance and I know he’ll be annoyed he hasn’t quite got the results so far that he’s wanted. The wickets were pretty flat in the ODI series to be fair.
“I’m sure the tour is going to get better for Booms … he’ll be a real handful and is the sort of bowler who can very quickly change a game if he gets it right.”
