In normal circumstances, he would have been in Australia for the T20 World Cup which was slated to be held from October 18 to November 15 but the global governing body of cricket had to reschedule the T20 World Cup in the wake of the novel coronavirus pandemic.
According to the previous schedule of ICC, the 2020 edition of the T20 World Cup was set to get concluded on November 15 in Melbourne this year. Apart from the top 10 nations, six additional teams, namely Netherlands, Papua New Guinea, Ireland, Scotland, Namibia, and Oman had qualified for T20 World Cup 2020.
Now, with the T20 event getting postponed, Netherlands cricketer doesn’t have any cricket commitment and to fulfill his basux needs, he is working as a delivery boy for Uber Eats.
“Should’ve been playing cricket today, now I’m delivering Uber eats to get through the winter months!! Funny how things change hahaha keep smiling people,” wrote van Meekeren on Twitter.
The Netherlands born player Paul van Meekeren, made his international debut in 2013 against Kenya in a T20 game. Paul has played five ODIs and 41 T20Is for the Dutch team and picked four and 47 wickets respectively. He also represented Somerset in County cricket. He is the vital part of his national team’s success.
Meanwhile, India will host the T20 World Cup in 2021 in between October-November with the final scheduled on November 14 and Paul van Meekeren would be wishing to be a part of Netherlands’ squad. Australia, on the other hand, will host the same tournament in 2022 in between October-November with the final scheduled for November 13.
