IPL 2024: Faf du Plessis to drop Alzarri Joseph? RCB’s Playing 11 vs CSK for Match 1

CSK vs RCB: Shivam Dube is doubtful in the Chennai's playing 11 for this game as he is yet to recover from the injury

Royal Challengers Bengaluru is all set to face the defending champions Chennai Super Kings looking to gain momentum for the whole tournament in the season opener. The match will be played at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on 22nd March.

Last season, RCB finished 6th with 14 points. If they had won their last game against Gujarat Titans, they could have secured a place in the playoffs. However, they lost and ended their campaign. This season, RCB is hoping to start their campaign strong and gain an advantage by learning from history.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Playing 11 vs CSK

RCB created turmoil by trading the Australian all-rounder Cameron Green from Mumbai Indians and would be hoping for him to come good and justify his whooping 17.5 cr. RCB has also announced a new role for Green with him finishing games with Dinesh Karthik.

Other than Green‘s trade RCB went heavy for the foreign pacers securing Alzarri Joseph (₹11.50 crore), Tom Curran (₹1.5 crore), and Lockie Ferguson (₹2 crores) in the auction.

RCB has traditionally relied on their star-studded batting trio, with Virat being the constant. The trio has changed over time. In the recent season, it’s KGF – Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, and their captain Faf Du Plessis. On a tough and slow Chennai pitch, RCB would be hoping for their stars to step up and score early on so that their finishers could step up.

On a tough and slowish Chennai Pitch, RCB would be hoping their stars to set up a good score early on, so that their finishers Dinesh Karthik, Cameron Green and an Impact player preferably Suyash Prabhudessai Could bank on it.

Talking about their pace unit, RCB offers a good blend of foreign and Indian bowlers.

Spearheaded by RCB ‘s homegrown superstar Mohammed Siraj along with the one who recently featured for India Akash Singh would be a key duo considering fast bowling. The last foreigner slot would be taken by another speedster with the likes Of Alzarri Joseph, Reece Topley, Lockie Ferguson and Tom Curran in Contention.

A loophole in RCB this year is their spin bowling. A team that saw brilliant spin wizards with the likes of Anil Kumble, Yuzvendra Chahal and Wanindu Hasaranga over the last years this year the spin department is a big shoe to be filled.

Karn Sharma or inexperienced Mayank Dagar is likely to fill that spot, other than that Maxwell will prove handy bowling two or three overs per game. Other than bat, Cameron Green with his height advantage will be a vital bowler on pitches that offer bounce

Traditionally Chennai has seen spinners doing a lot better than the Pacers and RCB ‘s lack of spin option can be fatal in the season opener. Karn Sharma has to step up big time in making RCB win the opening match as other than him,- times such as Maxwell and Lomror are the way forward.
