The price made Green the most expensive overseas player ever in IPL history, underlining how highly franchises value fast-bowling all-rounders.

KKR went head-to-head with Chennai Super Kings in a fierce bidding war that pushed the price far beyond expectations. The contest finally ended with KKR using their big purse to land their top target.

Green had entered the auction with a base price of ₹2 crore after being released by Royal Challengers Bengaluru ahead of the 2026 season. RCB let him go mainly due to concerns around his fitness following an injury last year.

Despite that, KKR showed full faith in the 25-year-old, seeing him as a long-term match-winner who can contribute in all three departments.

Green previously enjoyed a strong IPL 2023 season with Mumbai Indians, where he scored 452 runs and also picked up six wickets. His ability to bat in the top order and bowl quick overs made him one of the most sought-after names in the auction pool.

He was traded to RCB for the 2024 season but could not fully settle there before being released ahead of this auction.

Speaking around the auction, Green confirmed that he is fully fit and ready to bowl in the 2026 season. He also clarified that he was mistakenly listed as a “batter” in the initial auction list due to an error from his management.

That clarification helped ease concerns among franchises and sparked aggressive bidding once his name came up.

For KKR, Green’s signing fits into their rebuilding plans as they look to add pace, power, and balance to their squad. His presence gives them flexibility both at the top of the order and with the ball.
