BCCI to Sack Indian Coaches After Asia Cup 2025

BCCI to remove Morne Morkel and Ryan ten Doeschate after Asia Cup; Gautam Gambhir expected to stay on as head coach.

Bowling coach Morne Morkel and assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate are reportedly set to be removed from their roles after the 2025 Asia Cup.

According to a report by The Telegraph, the BCCI has already made up its mind, regardless of how India performs in the final two Tests of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.

The report adds that the BCCI is not happy with Morkel’s impact on the bowling unit and is unclear about Doeschate’s role in the setup. Both were brought in by head coach Gautam Gambhir when he took charge last year.

Gambhir had previously worked with Morkel at Lucknow Super Giants, and with Doeschate and Abhishek Nayar during his time at Kolkata Knight Riders. Nayar was earlier removed after India’s poor show in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy earlier this year.

So far, India’s current coaching team has won only four out of the 13 Tests under their watch. Despite this, the board is reportedly backing Gambhir to stay on, aiming to avoid a major overhaul while the team is still in a transition phase.

The report also claims that selectors Ajit Agarkar and Shiv Sundar Das, who are currently in England with the team, are being closely watched.

One of the major points of contention is the continued exclusion of Kuldeep Yadav from the playing XI. Kuldeep, known for his wicket-taking ability in Tests, has not played a single match in the current series.

The team management has opted for more batting depth instead.

“The coaches always talk of balance but keeping a world-class wrist spinner like Kuldeep Yadav out has had disastrous consequences,” a source told the paper.

Unless there’s a late change of heart, the coaching shake-up is expected to take place before India’s next Test series against West Indies in October.
