WI vs AUS: Robbed by Umpires? West Indies Captain Explodes After Shocking Decisions vs Australia
Roston Chase, Daren Sammy slam umpiring after WI's 159-run loss to Australia in 1st Test; call for DRS fairness

The West Indies camp didn’t hold back after their 159-run loss to Australia in the opening Test at Kensington Oval.
Skipper Roston Chase and head coach Daren Sammy voiced strong concerns about questionable umpiring decisions that they believe cost them big moments in the game.
Roston Chase Lashes Out at Umpiring Decisions
In the post-match press conference, Chase looked visibly disappointed. Speaking to the media, he said it was difficult to keep fighting when crucial decisions kept going against them.
“We bowled out Australia for a good total and were in control. But after that, things just didn’t go our way especially some poor calls. It’s tough. As players, we give everything on the field, and then these things happen. It’s disappointing.”
The West Indies were particularly unhappy with two major decisions, Chase’s own LBW and Shai Hope’s dismissal. In both cases, replays seemed to show enough doubt, but the third umpire ruled in Australia’s favour.
Daren Sammy Meets Referee After Frustrating Day
Head coach Daren Sammy reportedly met match referee Javagal Srinath after Day 2 to raise concerns about what he called “inconsistencies” in DRS and umpiring. He demanded a fair and consistent approach for both teams in the remaining matches.
Controversial Decisions Anger WI Camp
The trouble started when Chase was given out LBW despite what appeared to be a clear inside edge. The replays showed the ball touching the bat before the pad, but the third umpire still gave him out.
Soon after, Shai Hope’s catch behind raised more eyebrows. Australian keeper Alex Carey dived to grab it, but the ball seemed to touch the ground. Despite replays being inconclusive, the third umpire gave it out.
Earlier in the game, West Indies thought they had Travis Head caught behind, but that decision too went against them, adding to the growing frustration.
ICC Yet to Respond
The ICC has not released any official statement yet, but both Chase and Sammy might face charges under the ICC Code of Conduct for publicly criticising the officials.
However, many fans and experts have backed their comments, saying players deserve better treatment from match officials.
