“Enough Is Enough!” – Ravi Shastri Demands Tough Action From Gautam Gambhir After Embarrassing Leeds Defeat
Ravi Shastri has urged Gautam Gambhir to take tough calls in the dressing room after India’s sloppy defeat at Headingley.
India’s poor fielding and middle-order collapse in the Leeds Test against England has sparked a wave of criticism, and former head coach Ravi Shastri has now weighed in.
Speaking after India’s five-wicket loss, Shastri said it’s time for head coach Gautam Gambhir to take firm action and set the tone in the dressing room.
Shastri Wants Gambhir To Be Ruthless
Speaking to Sky Sports, Shastri didn’t mince his words. He said Gambhir must “tick off” players when required and be bold enough to confront mistakes head-on.
“Sometimes, as a coach, you have to be tough, really tough, in the dressing room,” said Shastri.
“There are moments where you need to call out certain players.”
India dropped five catches in England’s first innings, with Yashasvi Jaiswal missing four of them, chances that allowed England to recover and eventually chase down 371 with ease.
Shubman Gill’s Leadership Praised
Shastri praised debutant skipper Shubman Gill for scoring a century and leading from the front. He said that Gill exceeded expectations as captain, and most of the mistakes were beyond his control.
“There were five centuries scored by India. That’s a big positive. Gill was brilliant with the bat and showed maturity,” said Shastri.
Fielding, Lower Order Still A Problem
Shastri pointed out that India’s fielding and lack of contribution from the lower-middle order need immediate attention.
He added that while the top-order did their job, India missed out on putting up a 550-plus total despite being in a strong position.
“You must value your wicket. If there’s a chance to post 550-600, you can’t play with caution and hesitation.”
The second Test between India and England is set to take place at Birmingham from July 2.
