The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 held its first auction at the Jio World Centre in Mumbai on Monday, February 13.
Ahead of the tournament, Mumbai Indians (MI), Delhi Capitals (DC), Gujarat Giants (GG), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), and UP Warriorz (UPW) strategically chose their ideal lineup.
The auction featured a total of 448 cricketers, 269 of whom were Indian and 179 were from overseas (including 19 players from Associate Nations).
Royal Challengers Bangalore, known for their massive Men’s Indian Premier League fan following, have made a smart move by signing several outstanding Women’s T20 players in the auction.
They have signed on the services of some of the best T20 cricketers, including opening batter Smriti Mandhana, who is likely to lead the team in the tournament’s first edition. Other notable signings include Ellyse Perry, Renuka Singh Thakur, Richa Ghosh, and Sophie Devine.
