[Watch] Sushant Mehta Issues Apology Over Controversial Remarks Against Prophet Muhammad

Sushan Mehta, an Indian journalist, faced a social media trend dubbed “Boycott Sushan Mehta” on Monday. This happened after an old video of him making anti-Islamic comments on his show went viral on X (formerly Twitter). 

Sushant Mehta’s Comments on Islam

These comments were made while he was reacting to an old video of Indian stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui.

In the video, Sushant Mehta is purportedly making remarks about Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), responding to a segment from Munawar Faruqui’s earlier stand-up comedy where he was reportedly making jokes on Hindu gods.

Sushant Mehta is the face behind the YouTube channel Sports Yaari, where he provides insights and discussions on the selection and performance of the Indian cricket team.

Mehta, with a robust following of over 100,000 on X, shares the screen with two to three others on his show, where they collectively discuss and share their opinions on cricket matches and their outcomes. 

Sushant Mehta Apologises 

In a resurfaced video from three years ago, Sushant Mehta made it clear that he appreciates jokes, regardless of the target, and clarified that the show rarely touches upon such subjects. Here’s what he had to say: 

“Firstly, people grow a lot sensitive when such a topic comes along. Only 2-3 videos out of all in Cinema Yaari might be there when we speak on such issues. Munawar Farooqi said something funny about Lord Ram and Sita, Vir Das joked about Ramayana and I don’t have a problem with them. If it’s funny, I laugh at them myself. But I cracked a joke on Prophet Muhammad and I apologised to those who were offended. My agenda wasn’t to hurt anyone’s sentiments.”
