Sunil Narine Has Not Been The Same Bowler For a Few Years Now: Kevin Pietersen
Kevin Pietersen gave a statement about Sunil Narine and said that Sunil Narine's skill is futile and he is no longer the player he was before.
On Monday, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) suffered an 82-run loss to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Many KKR fans felt that the absence of spinner Sunil Narine, who was left out of the playing XI was the major reason behind KKR’s loss.
Sunil Narine was reported for illegal bowling action in the match against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). While he can still bowl in this year’s cash-rich league, rules state that if Narine is reported once more, he would be suspended from bowling further in IPL 13 until cleared.
Sunil Narine has failed to impress KKR fans not only with his bat but also with the ball. Meanwhile, former England batsman and current commentator Kevin Pietersen gave a statement about Sunil Narine and said that he has not been a bowler like before. Since joining the franchise in 2012, Narine has been an integral part of KKR. Pieterson said that Narine’s skill is futile and he is no longer the player he was before.
“If I am honest, I am not so sure it [Sunil Narine absence] is a massive loss. Sunil Narine has not been the same bowler for a few years now. He hasn’t had his best; he hasn’t had his real big spin. Coming to Sharjah, it is not something you are really worried about Sunil Narine,” Pietersen said on Star Sports.
“He is a tailender who bats at the top of the innings. I don’t really like him at the top of the order as a batsman. “He comes off with 1 off 10, and that’s not good for the team and the team dynamics. And then the bowlers have found him out in his batting. You bowl him short, he doesn’t like it,” Pietersen added.
Pietersen further stated, “Andre Russell is the guy you spend time talking about in team meetings. When he bowls, you are thinking about it. When he bats, you are thinking about it. It is the same when he is fielding.”
