A day after being appointed, Salman Butt has stepped down from his role as a consultant to Chief Selector Wahab Riaz.

Wahab Riaz announced the immediate withdrawal of Butt’s name from the consultancy panel during a press conference on Saturday, December 2.

The Pakistan pacer criticized the media for attempting to tarnish the PCB’s reputation after Salman Butt’s appointment to the advisory panel.

Faced with allegations of favoritism, particularly due to their close friendship, Wahab expressed the need to protect himself from such charges.

Salman Butt, Kamran Akmal, and Rao Iftikhar Anjum were appointed as consultant members on Friday, immediately tasked with advising Wahab in the selection of Pakistan’s team for the upcoming five-match series against New Zealand.

The selection of Salman Butt as a consultant member faced considerable criticism due to his controversial past, having been banned from the ICC in 2010 for his involvement in a spot-fixing scandal.
